Serbinski Residence

A contemporary 6,000 square foot single-family home on a double lot in Chicago’s Saint Ben’s neighborhood, the house was intended to fit into the traditional neighborhood made up mostly of stone and brick 2 flats.

The proportions of the home are taken from the neighboring buildings. The house‘s L shaped geometry created large open space in the rear for the family to enjoy off of the kitchen and family room.

One of the dominant features of the interior is the brick walls that connect the public and private spaces and add a loft feel to the interior. Another unique feature is the common playroom separating the two children’s bedrooms at the second floor.

The house uses a solar thermal system to heat the domestic hot water, radiant floors and forced air systems 7 solar panels are located on the roof.
