Architecture is a game of tug-of-war, “Pragmatism” pulling from the right and “Idealism” pulling from the left. Neither idea wins out, both though full of respect for the others’ effort.

The image we construct of ourselves is one of balance, between pragmatism of the past and the idealism of the future.

Architecture must root itself firmly at the middle, set to embrace its challenges and confront its identity. This is an architecture of will that believes it can make a difference in its solutions. As designers, planners and contractors, we seek to make manifest solutions held taught between pragmatism and idealism.

The success of architecture is measured by the synthesis of its design (which employs the will), materials (which convey the beauty) and craft (which commits the care). Composed together, design, materials and craft are the project’s tongue. They will speak of our grand dreams, for in the end what we leave behind is our will, our thoughts and our love.

When choreographed with its inhabitant, architecture will present its uniqueness; “musings” are left to dance at the perimeter wall.
