Project
Description
The Owners purchased
a 3,000 sf Condominium in a Premier High-rise in the Near North Area.
They sought to customize the home to the changing patterns of their
life. The existing space had been divided into small, under-utilized
rooms.
The Design Process
began by editing the space through subtracting walls and combining rooms.
To enlarge the spaces, the architecture was minimized. The new elements
were treated as furniture components set within the space. Sliding glass
panels, custom cabinetry and stone counter tops were used to define
the space. The Architecture of the condominium is modern; however, the
materials were selected to balance one another. Polished marble floor
tile was used in combination with tumbled stone. The library was wrapped
with wood panels, similar to a traditional library, but the panel detail
was stripped down and presented in a lighter colored wood.
Selected interior
finishes are stainless steel, granite, marble, maple and cherry custom
cabinetry, and a beech wood floor. In turn, the furniture and artwork
is a mix of modern and transitional fabrics and styles.
