Project
Description
A turn-of-the-century
single family home was purchased by a Developer to renovate and
sell. The Developer’s goal was to provide a modern, well thought-out
option to the typical, generic single family homes which dominate
the real estate market in the Bucktown Area.
All that was utilized
from the original structure were the rear and side walls. Gentle curves
were used throughout to suggest the new structure being squeezed by
the existing one. The roof trusses bend both at their top and bottom,
which provide curved ceilings for the rooms below. New interior walls
bend and allow light to flow in through their gaps. The entry level
is left open and simple. Only a partial height, curving wall demarcates
the Kitchen from the Dining Room. The Kitchen and Bathroom incorporate
rustic materials, such as the tumbled marble and cherry wood cabinetry,
to contrast the simple lines of the building. A curved bay window in
the Master Bedroom extends out and provides cover for the sunroom and
deck structure below.
