Elmhurst
residence
Proposal
To enlarge a distinctive, modern, single-family home in Elmhurst,
Illinois
Solution
An addition was designed to echo the house’s unique Bauhaus-inspired
qualities. A tapered 3-car garage helps create a courtyard garden
in the rear, which can be viewed from the new family room featuring
full-height windows. The master bedroom is provided with a wrap-around
terrace affording views of the south, west, and north. The interior
makes extensive use of Brazilian cherry wood floors, multi-colored
slate, and limestone, as well as brushed and honed granite.
When this project
is completed (in the spring of 2004), over 2,600 square feet will
have been added to the existing 1,400 square foot building, almost
tripling the size of the residence.
