Proposal
To expand a single story, two bedroom, two bathroom residence to accommodate the needs of a growing family

Solution
Complete second and third stories, as well as a three-story addition to the rear of the building, transformed the house into a three bedroom, three bathroom residence with a home office loft space.

The overall design invoked a contemporary Italian palazzo with two “front” elevations. Stairs were relocated to create more expansive interiors and improve the traffic flow, effectively opening up the kitchen to a new family room. A four foot deep loggia and a new terrace were added to the rear of the first floor. Terra cotta tile connects the interior and exterior spaces. Extensive use of yellow stucco, red terra cotta tile, and dark stained wood imparts a Mediterranean feel to the house.
