North Central Chicago Residence
Proposal
To update a single-family frame house in north central Chicago,
add a family room and master bedroom suite, and enlarge its kitchen
and dining room
Solution
The dining room area was reconfigured to blend into the two living
room parlors. A portion of the second floor was removed to create
a 2-story dining room, featuring a wall of windows and skylights
to allow for maximum light. A gourmet kitchen flows into the family
room area, which opens out to a raised deck terrace.
On the second floor, a master bedroom suite features a bathroom
with a two-person Whirlpool and a walk-in shower with a rain showerhead.
A two-story rear porch was removed and replaced with a new, triangular
addition.
