Project
Description
To update and create
a stimulating environment for a couple who had lived in an 1800sf condominium
on the North Shore of Lake Michigan since the building’s initial
construction.
The condominium
has the unique opportunity to view the life of the sun from its rising
in the East over Lake Michigan to its setting beneath the Western Horizon.
The palette was conceived as a metaphor of the sun’s life; birth
(white) to death (black) with gray tones suggesting the transition in
between. The floor is black granite tile, the cabinetry is translucent
white. The walls are painted in shades of gray from light to dark.
Reflective materials
are used throughout to accentuate the space and to reflect the bluish
tone of the water. Selected materials are custom Vitricor cabinetry,
granite slab and tile, stainless steel and etched glass.
